That door wasn’t being painted. The old paint was being sand blasted off to expose the wood. Many cabinets in old houses were made with some really nice wood and over the decades people paint over the wood. Sand blasting it off with walnut shells or some type of abrasive that isn’t too aggressive will expose that original beautiful wood. After that you just sand down any rough spots and put a nice finish on it.

Actually, he wasn’t painting the door to look like wood. He was using a special machine that blows sand at things to blow off the top layer of paint! You learn new things everyday!
