I bet it’s super frustrating when you have to get replacements in the middle of the movie. This is a super positive view on that experience! Especially when you get free coffee!

OMG i’m learning sign language for a play i’m in right now where i play a deaf mother, AND IM STARTING TO RECOGNIZE SIGNS WHEN I WATCH YOUR VIDEOS!!! this is so cool!! also if you have any tips on how to respectfully/accurately portray a deaf person i’d love to hear them!! ik it’s not the most inclusive for a hearing person to play someone w/ a disability in a play, but my entire troupe is hearing so i want to do this story and its characters justice!!

I used to work at a movie theater and I could never understand why the captioning devices had so many issues!! It was almost every time someone got one, they’d have to come out to management at some point about a device not working.

Aww, your little smile and giggle at the end was adorable 🥺 sometimes I consider learning ASL just for people like you! ❤

I’m glad they comp those tickets! Kinda wish movie theatres would just run some screens with subtitles and some without. I guarantee the subtitled option would be hugely popular not only with Deaf or HoH folks, but also anyone with auditory processing issues of any kind, folks still learning the language, etc.

As a fast food worker I always gave blind folks free stuff so if we miscommunicated it doesn’t affect them money wise, I know it can be hard to communicate and can be especially frustrating if you can’t communicate easily and you end up paying for something you didn’t want because of something you can’t control.

As someone with anxiety and someone who can’t say no, I resonate with this. I will often order one thing with everything on it and pick off stuff because I’m so anxious in social situations, I panicked and passed out at a teen when I was forced by my mother to ask for something I didn’t mind missing out on for the sake of not panicking.

Even now it’s so hard for managers at jobs to understand that I am prone to pass out and become nauseous as someone who works in a social setting.

Girl I relate to this so much, when I was 12 I got diagnosed with cancer. I had a tumor wrapped around my left pelvic bone and ended up having to get my entire left leg removed because there was no way of saving it without the cancer coming back or spreading the other parts of my body and getting much worse and once it spreads, you can’t just decide to get your leg removed then because it’s already in different spots of your body so obviously I’m in a wheelchair when traveling long distances like if we go out I’m gonna be in a wheelchair because I’m not gonna be using my walker since that would be really tiring because I only use my walker around the house or at friends houses and whenever I go out I get so much free shit like when I actually had cancer or at least I was getting chemo at this point I don’t quite remember, I went on vacation with my family to where we have been going our entire life, down the shore, we live in New Jersey so we go to the Jersey shore, obviously, and I went to a funnel cake place and it’s not just wanna cake It’s also like fried Oreos and stuff but I don’t know what it’s called and she gave me the funnel cake for free and said that it was national beautiful girls day, and at this point I was completely bald. I was getting chemo. I was extremely sick and pale and you could clearly tell I was sick but when we came back the next day where this funnel cake stand is, it’s basically where lots of other shops are and we were picking out jewelry and the guy immediately gave me a free bracelet. I get free shit all the time and I am so appreciative of everything I’ve been giving, I’ve been given my life, and even though of course, my life is nothing like it was before and I wish I had two legs I wish my life was normal per se, but I’ve been given so much and so many opportunities that I’m so appreciative of all of it I’m not like a spoiled brat or anything.

As a barista, I will say that I gave my only deaf customer free drinks cause I felt bad that I didn’t learn enough ASL to properly have a chat with her so she could enjoy the same experience as the rest of the customers.. since then, I’ve been working on my ASL more and will, hopefully, be more prepared for future customers!! ☺️

I’m in a wheelchair and I get free stuff a lot too, when I was younger it made me angry because I wanted to be like everyone else, but now I love it 😆 it doesn’t make up for how rough life is but it sure does cheer me up! Plus taking your date to a museum for free always impresses them.

Captions in movies should be mandatory. Idk why they don’t include them most of the time but it’s so exclusive. My best friend is HOH and it can be very difficult for him. Also there are parts in movies where sometimes you just can’t properly understand what was said no matter if it’s your first language or not, it’s just upsetting and would only benefit us

I used to work in a movie theater and I fought (unsuccessfully) for years to have open caption screenings. Those CC/ALD devices were almost guaranteed not to work at pretty much all the theaters I worked in. I was that manager who would comp just about everything for HoH or Deaf guests, because if it’s a service we offered then I felt it was a service we should have been able to guarantee.

I love your videos, and the insight into your community AND your struggles is beyond appreciated. ❤
