TikTok banned on all UK government devices

tiktok!!

Millions of teenagers, not to mention cabinet ministers, love to post on the social media app TikTok. But today the British government said it would ban TikTok from government phones over fears that there could be a risk to ‘sensitive data’.

Many Western governments are concerned that the Chinese government could try to access users’ data from the app.

The company said the move, which brings the UK in line with the US and the European Commission, was being driven by wider geopolitics.

They literally admit in the terms of service they look at contacts, keystrokes, personal files etc.
It should be banned unless Byte Dance (tiktoks company) releases the source code and have a western company handle data collection that are compliant with UK/EU/US laws as much as I disagree with data collection as a advocate for FOSS

I think they should also be looking very closely at BYD cars also. Online firmware updates and front and rear cameras. Just imagine if this was feeding video back to China under the guise of a firmware update and was owned by a military base employee or other sensitive government site.

The ban should be for all devices, not just government ones. Bytedance lies saying they don’t share info with the CCP,they don’t have a choice not to.

What are they afraid of – That China will learn our best teenagers dance moves and beat us in a dance-off? I don’t even use TikTok but this just seems like fear mongering over Chy-na

A week after getting my new tablet I said to my friend “I’d love sweet and sour chicken” and to my surprise 30mins later a delivery was made to my house from my local Chinese restaurant. This may not be true.

There should be no social media apps no work phones. Obviously WhatsApp is considered but is critically encrypted for messaging so until I learn otherwise I don’t see why the others were ever allowed.
The full US ban is hypocritical given what Facebook did with Cambridge Analytical

TikTok headquarters will just release a totally different named app and boom, no longer banned.
