Will TikTok be banned? | DW News

tiktok!!

Time is running out for video-sharing app TikTok – or at least for the more than 100 million users in the US. The app is owned by a Chinese company, and law enforcement experts say the app not only could, but is likely to be used by Beijing to spy on US citizens – and worse, on government officials. That is why earlier this week, the US had already banned the use of TikTok on government mobile phones. Canada, the European Parliament and the EU Commission announced similar bans on their employees.

It tells you something when a government is complaining that a mobile app is kicked off the store, one that gathers a lot more data than it needs, nonetheless

Honestly surprised governments don’t just have government issued phones (with basically everything blocked on em) for government work.

Government devices should not contain or be other non-allied government companies’ apps/devices.
Company phones should not contain social apps or rival company apps.
The exception is for those who work with those apps/devices specifically.
Personal phones can install whatever they want,
but apps and devices must clearly state what information they take and when they take it.
If a phone has both personal and work account, then it should be considered as work phone.
This is my personal opinion.

What Chinese government is not revealing, is that they just took control of the company that owns the app.

I’m watching family members gradually losing intelligence, motivation and becoming more depressed, and guess what? They spend hours on TikTok!

Blaming a thief for intruding your home and steal sounds totally right to me. Blaming your self not to have stronger protection measure is of course doable, but they are not mutually exclusive.

Love the outrage from China that the US might ban an app that is already banned in China.

Aaroson needs to talk to a tech expert about data security and how it is used. TikTok is _dangerous._

Tiktok is banned in China. They have a different version for their people. So, if they ban their own product in their country, this says a lot.

I agree to talk doesn’t need to be in America. But TikTok is jumping in kind of quickly to when it’s just on government phones right now😂. The fact that they’re quick to talk about our freedom of speech when it’s strict on government devices. ‼️. The timing of it is incomprehensible. If you think about it, Tik Tok blew up right around the time. Covid started spreading quickly. 🙄. THAT’S Suspicious‼️

I don’t know why China’s upset anyways, TikTok is not even used in China. It’s banned in China.😂
Which means China doesn’t even see that it’s fit for their own population.

The problem with the communist party is they don’t need to ask for the data they can just take that data ‼️

I remember several years ago the republicans said this app was dangerous and everyone thought they were nuts. Now looks who’s laughing.

Once your data is collected it really too late. It’s bought and sold quickly. I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes an entire system crash and start over again. I’m just thinking of how this can be used as an international threat. If you enemy wanted to set up a crisis and disable/mess up your mode of communications then I can see why it would be necessary to redo our systems.
