I live with a woman who has become gradually dumb because of Tiktok. My resentment for it is personal. I have never used the app. 😂

Totally agree, me and a friend were talking about this and how it has Totally taken the minds of future generations and made them focus on nonsense.

I love the breakdown, Pat. Ultimately, we wage war for the good side by spending our energetic currency, attention currency, and literal currency in the right spots. Meaning, 1) energetic currency = spend energy putting action into things that directly improve your personal life and situation, 2) attention currency = what creators are you watching and on what platforms, and 3) literal currency = where are we buying from online? Are we purchasing groceries local, organic, etc.. This is the power we have in a capitalistic, free country and so many Americans in particular just don’t understand how to make REAL change happen.

I’m in my early 20s and I personally see how TikTok is making people chronically addicted and hypnotized every single day. And the majority of videos that goes viral are the toxic ones, not the ones spreading positivity. It definitely needs to go

It’s good to have this perspective, but how would that affect the sinergy some creators have created between TikTok and other platforms?(YouTube twitch etc)

TikTok has made it difficult to hold meaningful conversations with friends without them losing attention or getting distracted. Crazy.

I am so glad it’s not me. I thought that I had really screwed my stuff up, but seeing that you are getting so few views on TikTok makes me know this is not something personal about me and that I’m better to focus on other social media and just give up on it. It’s too unreliable. Takes me on an emotional rollercoaster when one video takes off and then the next doesn’t get any views. I’m tired of wasting my time on TikTok

Patrick, this is a really great message!!! The only thing wrong with it is that everyone in the US has not heard the message. I wish everyone could hear it.

Loved this video because talks about a subject that I’m really scared of. Just one thing to point out, I’ve been working with Google Ads for 2 years and I can tell you that the data collected is the same from Google. We should check the content shown on both platforms. TikTok and Instagram. Given elements representing the content’s smartness, check which one is dumber. About talking in a bad way about China I agree, it’s a possibility and I don’t like China either. But the problem about dumb content I really don’t know. Musk also is talking about social media in general, not just TikTok. I quit both TikTok and Instagram for the reels. One thing maybe is that china is blocking dumb content for Chinese users. So is more a passive move not active on us. I really suggest talking with people living in China when talking about it, not having a representative is like when talking bad about a person, you’ll always feel right.

I like watching Pat’s content on YouTube because things are explained thoroughly. TIK TOK videos tend to be more attention grabbing. This is interesting!

Love your honesty man !! Keep it up . And I do agree with u that tik is definitely not good for America. What makes you great is that your family came here as immigrants with little money and now you’re a huge success and you are spreading positive vibes and the love for this country

I’m not a fan of TikTok, but some of these could be explained away via the demographics of the users on different platforms. As well as a rumor that TikTok promotes a new user’s account much more when they initially join TikTok. So the views would go down due to not being amplified, and then the platform’s audience might be less interested in the content Patrick provides as they are demographically very young. It might be a coincidence, but china censoring Patrick could also be totally accurate.

I completely agree with what you have explained about Tik Tok and I’ve seen and heard of some horrible stories regarding not only Tik Tok but some of the content moderation on F/Book and Twitter with PayPal sometimes intervening with restrictions to organizations and individuals funds (in or out), but the “Huh?” moment in this video was the use of data in whatever header they choose to put it under, “Terms of use”, “Privacy Policy”, “Cookie Policy”, “Legal”, etc is nothing new or surprising in it’s open ended terminology and pre-checked boxes ticked as much as legally possible prior to the user checking the “I agree” box. I also understand that Tik Tok is an app from China and I’ll assume it’s not owned or run by anyone subject to Social Credits over there so the nature of it’s data use is different in nature (as you have pointed out and seen the ramifications of saying so on that platform which was a pretty ballsy experiment but a great insight from someone of your stature which is why I watch your channel). My 22 years in the I.T. industry and servicing/repairs to electronics which is mainly smart phones nowadays, hardware, firmware and software is something I’ve been very interested in since their inception. I jokingly refer to them as the “hand held microchip” so many of us are understandably opposed to. The very long winded point I wanted to respectfully offer is the use of our data via any device connected to the internet. We don’t truly understand the nature of this data beyond money and power to whatever end but there’s also it’s use in the future as well. There was a rumor a while back that US visitor visa’s might be subject to online activity as well as the normal checks on the applicant of many foreign visitor visa’s. I was in the US in October 2010 for 2 weeks and loved it. NYC, LA, Arizona, Texas, San Diego, Chicago and Louisiana (two of those were connecting flights but seeing the Sears Tower with Lake Michigan was awesome compared to Newark leaving NYC). I’ll wrap this up with 2 recent “data privacy” encounters I had recently. First was the NBA app which pre-checked 647 advertisement agencies or data companies which I counted twice, took screen shots and photo’s of the screen with another camera. Second and only 2 days ago was MS-365 on a Lenovo laptop I purchased which was pretty much verbatim in it’s data collection and use as the one shown in this video by Tik Tok. Again, just adding more (if not known already) as it interests me for many reasons. Thanks for the upload and everything else you’ve done on this channel for all of your viewers (I rarely comment as I try to avoid conflict because I also respect the views/opinions of others) As E.T. famously said, “I come in peace” and if you’re still reading this, thanks and take care 🙂

All the value you speak along with all the other “real” content creators who educate about economics is so important. I work in the school system in Sweden and some students are mature enough to have started an interest in these topics. It’s sad that most of them don’t understand English so well. To bad they don’t show up for after hours about personal finances and topics like these when we tried at the school. Keep the work up so more can learn Pat!

I’m battling this app with my 14 year old daughter who is addicted to this platform like a gambler or drug addict. The repetitive messaging of moronic people or the sexualisation of children on the platform is sickening. We’ve blocked the app, taken it off her phone but she’ll argue she can’t communicate with her friends and we end up arguing over time on this app. I’m hearing the same from so many parents as our kids are literally becoming more stupid and sexualised before our eyes. This video has only reinforced TikTok is evil and a sweeping cancer across our youth, it needs to be banned immediately.

Please let me go ahead and preface this by saying I am nowhere on the level of PBD, and I do not work for TikTok. I’ve been creating content on and off, mostly off, since 2016. This is free game for anyone interested in TikTok as a platform. Since late October, I’ve been studying Tiktok. First, we have to assess the fact that PBD doesn’t make content that is fun or easy to watch for kids. The average Tiktok user is 16-24 (60% of users). Most high school and college kids don’t seek financial or business advice. Also, I looked at your TikTok account, and all your content is the same “talking head” content. I also make “talking head” content, and my audience skews older (25+). Consider that PBD only appeals to older TikTok users in addition to the repetitive theme of the content he creates. Just because I like 1-2 videos doesn’t mean I will love the same informational talking head style of the next 100.

Now, let’s consider that PBD is a considerably large creator on the platform, with over 250k followers. TikTok’s algorithm tends to help smaller creators reach the “for you” page regularly to see how the video will perform and to give them a better chance to grow a following. PBD’s early videos, as a small account, were able to capitalize on that. Once a creator reaches a certain level, their content doesn’t reach the for you page as often. It is mainly pushed to their followers, and if their followers are not engaged by the content, it will fall flat. Additionally, TikTok makes no guarantee that your followers will ever see another video from you again. Especially if your followers become desensitized to the type of content, you create.

Lastly, I’ve come to realize that TikTok prioritizes shareable content. That is why you see a lot of crazy, dancing, and funny content with high views. People are sharing those videos outside of TikTok. This is even shown in PBD’s recent videos. He has a video about Mr. Beast turning down a 1 billion dollar offer, which has 187 shares and over 635K views. If you go down the list of his other videos, you will see that the number of shares is considerably low (fewer than 10 on most videos).

TikTok reminds me of the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich frenzy. Everyone is running to the platform hoping for fortune and quick fame by making some silly 12-15 second video. Once Popeyes sold out of chicken sandwiches, they brought them back, but people who had the original chicken sandwich noticed the difference. They cut the product, and it didn’t taste the same. TikTok has made adjustments in the last 2-3 months. The product has been cut, and we have to adjust. It is still the best platform for small creators looking to grow quickly.

In conclusion, PBD’s content, as it currently stands, is not exciting or shareable to most users on TikTok. Does it help that PBD spoke poorly about China? Probably not. Is TikTok bad for the world? Maybe. Will it be shut down? Probably. But for now, it’s here, and if you’re a business person, you must figure out how to dominate it.

P.S. PBD if you’re reading this, an additional reason the Mr. Beast video popped off is SEO. The platform is taking more significant steps to register with search engines, specifically google. So get your copywriters on top of that. Or whoever reads comments for PBD, I hope this gets you a raise! Stay blessed and happy holidays!

in my country tiktok is similar to Youtube, there is entertainment, there is education (health, finance or history), there is review content. Contrary to you, Pat, many content creators in my country have complained about the drastic drop in the number of viewers on Youtube because their subscribers don’t get notifications for their latest videos, so they turn to tiktok. on Youtube, content with regional accents and regional culture are often laughed at by viewers because these things are considered tacky. Meanwhile, content creators who often use English and defend western values are respected by their viewers. on tik tok, content with regional languages and regional culture is much more accepted by viewers so that it is more comfortable for most viewers in my country who still use a lot of regional languages or accents. unfortunately for some reason tiktok always makes my cellphone overheat if I watch it for more than 1 hour.

I’m a freelance videographer that mainly works in the real estate industry, I’ve been around all the top producers in my states market. Grown men and women, obsessing over how they’re going to go viral on tik tok/ig instead of focusing on the fundamentals of selling real estate and growing a business. It’s really weird to see. Ik people who refuse to do things like cold calling/door knocking/mailers, networking etc. and instead are focusing the majority of their time trying to make corny reels and “blow up”. People have built their whole business off not being a great salesman, but making social media content. It’s cool n all I guess, but I keep thinking, long term, what’s gonna happen if tik tok or even ig reels are no longer popular (look at vine) a lot of these agents are going to lose their massive followings and a good majority of their business overnight. And all of this started because of tik tok

I really think that it is people’s own responsibility what they choose to be entertained by we cannot have prejudice on people because they have more options now than they did before. Kids aren’t just sitting around at bed time waiting from scary stories they’re actually able to look at things that they think are creative and inspiring to them there’s nothing wrong with that so instead of doom and gloom fairy tales when everybody’s dying because of the Bubonic plague (dark ages) around you and everybody was able to try to draw hope and inspiration from things they see on Tik tok I understand people might have a negative viewpoint on it but the more you try to take it away the more it’s going to draw more people in

I blame this app singlehandedly for my attention loss. I didn’t use it nearly as much as my friends but I still recognized how much time I was throwing away. Could be using that time for reading books, doing hobbies, etc. Deleted the app around 2 months ago and I haven’t even thought about it since then. TikTok is destroying the youth and destroying peoples brains

Very nice perspective to explain this. Im so happy you addressed and analyzed it in a sober, logical way and had the data to back it up.
Just love your channel, always feels like I became richer, after each video.

Lil constructive criticism: Maybe you can use some Graphs and Animations to explain all this, not just numbers.
Probably i am dumb, but those type of videos which explain stuff with graphs and animations, when it comes to numbers, ratios and amounts.
Present the info in such a way, i can relate, feel and remember it best.
A good example is the Real Engineering Channel, where it is used to perfection. (although it does not need to be that complex like hes explanations).
A few graphs with animations, in relation to other ones, can do wonders in data visualization and the way information is digested and imagined by the viewer.

The same could be said about Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube. So after Tik Tok, what do we ban ? You can spend hours on youtube watching people getting kicked in the nuts or you can learn how to fix your washing machine, bake a cake, fix a leaky faucet. and same for Tik Tok.
