I’ve always used the safety belt to lock my purse in the shopping cart! I’ve taught everyone I know to do this also. It’s, obviously, not an impenetrable lock, but it will really, really slow down purse snatchers!

To add to the objects in driver floorboard: if your car has cruise control with +/- keys, you can set your CC and hit the – key a bunch of times to temporarily act as brakes until you can remove the object. Also, front assist braking assist in newer cars usually works only when you’re in CC, which is good to keep in mind in an emergency.
