Today I learned The average American child is given $3.70 per tooth that falls out. Guess I was lucky.

i have recently been studying the US’s prison system and it has really led me to question the normalization of prisons. the us makes up for 20% of the world’s incarcerated population even though it only holds 5% of the world’s entire population. i personally think it is because of capitalism as many businesses work with the prison industry for cheap labor. why do we lock people up for “bad” actions instead of really looking into why they committed that action? crime is a symptom of something wrong in society.

Says a lot that prisons owner and managers don’t want the civilians to see a honest and raw presentation of prison life from the view of the prisoners

“must be nice to sit and watch TV all day long”

No it’s not actually. Only a stupid person would make a comment like that. Says a lot about what they value.

This video hit really close to home. It’s not easy being incarcerated. The vast majority of the people I was locked up with were good people who just made some mistakes or were dealing with an addiction such as myself. It was one of the most difficult situations of my life. I lost everything I had worked for when I got my possession charges. Making it through is just the first obstacle. There’s so many more once you get out. I’m clean now, will be graduating with my bachelors Spring 2021 and starting on my Masters. Yet I still have had difficulties getting internships and jobs because of mistakes I made 7 years ago.
