tiktok!!

TikTok is a popular social media app that everybody seems to be talking about these days. The Chinese company-owned app is facing a potential ban in the US over data privacy concerns unless it gets acquired by a US company. This issue is getting a lot of media coverage, but have you wondered how ordinary Chinese citizens feel about the whole situation? We hit the streets of Shanghai to find out.
The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Chinese population.

Old Chinese saying: “If you are out to condemn somebody you can always trump up a charge.”
OH, THE IRONY!

I wish we’d ban TikTok in the UK, that way I wouldn’t have to keep suffering 7 seconds of their cringe inducing adds on YouTube.

8:07 “Both are reasonable in a situation where no one is reasonable” My man dishing out some truths here.

Most of the people interviewed don’t seem to acknowledge or maybe understand the downsides of a foreign government collecting personal data on citizens of a rival country.

“Both are reasonable in a situation where no one is reasonable.” This guy had the best comments on the matter.

Data is like new oil these days which has some value and no country wants their data to go in hand of other country.

I see a lot of comments center around the white shirt guy’s comment on social class. 8:50.
Just want to point out, the translation is off. 层次 here does not mean social class, it means level of thinking.
The guy basically saying “Some people can tell right from wrong when they see info from abroad and realise whose interests it serves. Some people can’t, due to lack of in depth critical thinking or education”. He does not imply social class.

As a Chinese , I think the guy who said “both are reasonable in a situation…” is the most objective person in this video.

“But what about when China…” Have y’all thought that maybe (given that they hold these views and values) don’t necessarily agree with their government’s actions either? Their government isn’t representative of their personal views. People are just talking about the Chinese government to avoid dealing with some very valid points that were brought up by these people. Imagine if everytime you criticised something another government did people told you you couldn’t have an opinion because of all the things Trump does.

Americans should be remembered about Edward Snowden and Julian Assange whenever they rant about national security, privacy and human rights. No other country is more shameless than US. China will become a dominant economic and military power but may not be able to influence the public opinion around the world as anglophone media does. World has to be de-Americanized.

I don’t know why that’s a big issue in China, since douyin earns more than tiktok 🙂🙂🙂 I mean 80% of bytedance’s income comes from China, so as long as it won’t affect the Chinese market then it’s actually ok to just sell tiktok, social media apps does flop in few years, just let Microsoft handle that app 😂
I don’t really think that tiktok can last that long, because it’s just an app for entertainment, new one always the best 😂 Microsoft may earn money now, but not sure in the future, it’s actually a big risk for Microsoft too.
