Congress Doesn’t Know How TikTok Works

tiktok!!

As many people may not know, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew spoke in Congress today as the US is considering banning TikTok. In this video we take a look at the Congress meeting between the TikTok CEO and the Speakers, one of which asks: Does TikTok access the home wifi network? After looking at the hearing it is clear to see that Congress doesn’t know how TikTok works.

I don’t have social media, but this hearing was ridiculous… All the complaints they had about TikTok could be made about any social media platform

Mr.Carter of Georgia was the funniest out of this whole thing. “Can you say with 100% certainty that TikTok does not use the phone’s camera to see whether the content that elicits a pupil dilation, should be amplified by the algorithm.”

They’re just throwing out vague tech mumbo to scare parents watching this and not allowing the CEO to explain. I would hope tik tok release a statement that answer all these congress members questions. I’m generally curious on the actual response and a written version instead of people talking over each other

It like trying to win a twitter argument, whoever yells the loudest/talks over the other person more wins.

The structure of tiktok actually makes it super hard to “ban”. As stated previously, the company is already pretty well insulated from China and working on improving that. The ban of a piece of software has to be a law, and that law is either going to be unconstitutional or it’s gonna hit every other social media platform.

Congress not even allowing the CEO to speak is so unprofessional and disgusting. Also I never thought I would feel bad for a CEO worth 50 billion dollars

Any time tech CEOs go in front of Congress, I feel the tiniest bit bad for them. Remember when the CEO of Google had to explain how search results work?

I’ve always been a TikTok hater, but my respect for the company as a whole just went up after seeing the poor CEO being tortured for 5 hours

I’m not American and I have never even _downloaded TikTok_ and yet I just wanna run up to the ceo and say I’m so sorry u had to deal with this rubbish. I can’t believe he kept his cool the whole freakin FIVE HOURS when they were putting words in his mouth, constantly interrupting him, not allowing him to respond properly and giving him these insane complicated questions but just allowing him to make yes or no answers all for the purpose of just trying to trap him. He was meant to be the “bad guy” in the room, and don’t get me wrong he could still totally be doing some sketchy things, but the congress just completely backfired on themselves. It gave me and my friends a good laugh, but it’s also heartbreaking that people so out of touch are such powerful leaders.
As a young person, I’m actually really curious to see what kind of leaders the new generations will make. If they’ll also start to be out of touch, or if the fact that they understand how to use technology now will help them learn more quickly as it changes.

Not one of these politicians has ever used TikTok in their lives and they think they’re qualified and indeed have the duty to speak on it. Blows my mind 💀
