Why Banning TikTok Won’t End China’s Influence

tiktok!!

The US government is threatening to ban TikTok in the US if its Chinese parent company ByteDance doesn’t divest from it. In this episode of China Uncensored, we look at Chinese influence in the app, what happened when India banned the app, and why just banning it won’t end Chinese influence in the US.

But at least, banning can make something different. If India did not ban TikTok, YouTube would not seriously think about an alternative, and the world would never witness a war about short videos.

The banning of Tik Tok is a good start and banning other Chinese produced social media programs should begin as well. The CCP uses money and social media to influence other governments compared to Russia which uses more force. Good reporting and keep up the good work.

No, keystroke patterns could be like an ID, a fingerprint so you can track people even if they are trying to hid their information, if their keystroke patterns are already recorded.

I just saw a story about a weapons manufacturer saying they can’t produce enough weapons because the Tik-Tok data center near them is using up all the electricity to “store all the cat videos”

I’d like to share. I have 400k followers on tiktok, but I’ve quit the past year. China absolutely does censor any anti-tiktok posts, any posts talking about the CCP, any posts talking about tiennamen square, or how tiktok is connecting user data to the CCP. The algorithm is sincerely probably the most advanced in the world. It’s nearly sentient, it’s like it knows when I have the slightest inkling of distaste for the CCP and I get my video taken down immediately. What’s even more disturbing is that I am repeatedly getting pro-china propoganda in my feed. Highly edited videos of super clean chinese cities and the best landmarks of chinese geography. All of the accounts that show me this only post the best of china, have a chinese name on them and mandarin text throughout. It’s disturbing. And it’s not just landscapes. I also get fed videos that talk about how tiktok does not collect your data and it isn’t connected to the CCP. In other words, tiktok promotes only videos that benefit it. ANOTHER disturbing thing is that I am a man of Christian faith and tiktok seems to know this. What’s concerning though is that when I scroll through livestreams on tiktok, and I am not exaggerating, I am ONLY fed livestreams of hardcore athiests that want to debate Christians about their faith. These are rarely earnest, open-minded discussions, and more often an athiest echo chamber. There’s a lot of targeting on belief systems, which seems quite in line with the athiest CCP’s agenda. Lastly, this app has caused more division than even twitter. The algorithm clearly finds out what people’s views are, and positions them against the other side’s most ridiculous, infuriating takes. This creates an exaggerated view in the participants of the app, and leads them to believe that all people on the other side are bigots or racists, or conversely woke blue haired hardcore feminists. It pits our country against one another to cause the most division possible. We have HALF our COUNTRY on this app. And they are all subject to this. It’s extremely concerning. In fact, ever since 2020, when tiktok really took off, I feel our country has rarely if ever been more divided. This is manufactured division.

as an American my people need to start paying attention to this! They are very Naive about how dangerous it is for people to get hold of their data

Banning TikTok is literally the same as banning Google, banning ShareChat, banning YouTube, and banning Facebook. I don’t see a benefit in banning TikTok and in fact banning TikTok should be the least of the USA and Canada’s concerns.

My understanding is that this new proposed law would also allow for the banning of wechat as well. If so, do you see that happening? What would the consequences be?
