I thought social media platforms weren’t responsible for users and their algorithm? If they rule they are responsible social media including YouTube as we know it will be destroyed.

A company DOES NOT destroy anyone lives , it’s the people themselves that take action upon them selfs , suicide is someone’s decision

Not a fan of TikTok, but they should not be held accountable for 100% of the fault of these tragedies.
TikTok is partially at fault, so are the users who posted the videos to help the trend to go viral.

This Florida rep is saying “people get killed in car accident, so car does bad thing to people and should be banned” It’s ridiculous conclusion. 🤮🤮🤮

Blaming an app for the stupidity of the people using it, while never doing the same with the alcohol industry. Typical GOP nonsense.

You notice he stated no evidence to support his claim instead he pointed to one case where there is also no evidence to blame TikTok. All he did was appeal to emotions.

all these “challenges” originated on myspace during the jackass era… todays generation just got exposed to these things and started acting like they came up with them. tiktok and/or other social media does nothing but make it easier for them to find this content, however if you ban tiktik itll just be a goose chase of like minded apps. we need to not focus on social media but focus on whos consuming it- the kids. we need to hold them under some accountability as well.

Seriously asking to remove a waterfall (eg Niagara) because of suicide rates! In the long run one needs to rethink what should be the actual cure!
Keep a gatekeeper on the contents. Each state and country needs to take their measure for this. If not TikTok there are instagram and YouTube shorts. If not them there will be another.

All of Congressional hearings are a waste of time. The only time they identify as a problem or a criminal act, is always with their untouchable friends of status.

We’ve been watching TV for multiple hours a day for the past 70 years the only difference is with the internet we control the content we see. Beyond the security threat TikTok may or may not pose, if you don’t want your kid to be affected by content, limit it. All phones have parental controls now. If you can’t operate a smartphone yourself, then you probably shouldn’t buy your child one. It’s not a company’s obligation to protect your child.

If you gonna take down TikTok, y’all better take down all social media. Let’s go back to analog and back to basics.

it’s not tiktok itself. it’s literally the ppl on the app! one man isn’t responsible for millions of ppl. this whole thing is ridiculous.

Every generation they find something new to blame for things they don’t want to accept responsibility for. Reefer madness, Rock n Roll music, video games ect…
I’ve never used TT but know it didn’t kill anyones kid. I don’t know why ppl think TT is doing anything other platforms haven’t.

My heart breaks to hear stories like this and us Parents need to take on responsibility by being more involved in what kids watch, what we allow vs not allow. This was a symptom of a bigger issue. Hope companies do more to team up with this issue.

It is unacceptable that Bilirakis has to Read the content his staff wrote for him.
This topic is serious and he should have known the full content off the top of his head.

First off, if you’re going to allow your children to use social media without parental guidelines set up. This is how you eliminate this problem. Tiktok is not a a platform like how Congress is presenting it. They never let the man explain himself which is very irritating

Well, if we are talking about people doing stupid things they saw on Tik Tok and getting hurt then it might not be a bad thing. Thinning the gene pool of those kinds of people may actually benefit society.

I’m 36 and I’ve never seen a more blatant display of stupidity and willful ignorance as I have seen during this hearing. I am terrified that these are the people we have representing us.
