UK bans TikTok from government mobile phones – BBC News

tiktok!!

The use of Chinese-owned social media app TikTok on phones and other devices issued to UK government ministers and civil servants has been banned.

Cabinet Office minister Oliver Dowden told MPs the app would be banned on security grounds with immediate effect.

TikTok has strongly denied allegations that it hands users’ data to the Chinese government.

There should be no social media apps on any government issued devices full stop unless it is being used by PR purposes with proper security policies

Surely there shouldn’t be ANY social media apps on government phones and computers. Or are us hard-pressed taxpayers paying for civil servants to just goof around instead of working?

I hope it’s fully banned across the board. If you read the terms and conditions you will see how much information is being gathered by the app. This includes your home wifi network and network password.

Since everyone has personal AND work mobiles, this measure is meaningless. Most corporate mobiles allow centralised wiping of all data if stolen so savvy employees never have any of their personal stuff on a work phone.

From my own observations of adult close friends: those who use this software for a long time, after some not very long time of regular consumption, cannot adequately perceive even 15-20 minutes of information from an intelligent and authoritative lecturer from the same YouTube. It is difficult to imagine how in the future world a teacher from the University of London demonstrates a lecture on Shakespeare through TikTok

Here is the best way to legally beat the licence fee:-
1.Stop your licence for a month or two.
2.Start your license after that period.
3. Watch all the programs you have missed on iplayer.
4. Repeat the above if you can’t give up the rotten BBC for good.

Good. Not only is it a matter of security, government staff should be totally focused on the job they’re paid for – not being tempted into social media and watching silly videos.

This “emergency alert” thing is interesting – it’s going out to all mobiles, if you don’t respond to it, some features will stop working and the alert will override silence settings – the purpose is so they can alert us of floods etc. So, from that, they can control your phone settings, they know which mobile numbers are active & where they are & of course who owns that number. Why not go the whole hog & down load all the data too while they’re at it !!

BTW – will it disable alarm systems which use a SIM card to communicate (many fire alarms, intruder alarms & lift entrapment alarms etc work like that now)..
